Protesters of all ages carried signs denouncing the authoritarian overreach and threats to democratic institutions. Newton has always stood up for civil rights, and today many residents made it clear that no one is above the law, not even our president.

No king can trump the power of peaceful protest

The demonstration remained peaceful throughout, with Newton police reporting no incidents. Many participants were families with children, and the atmosphere was described as both serious and community-oriented. This is what Democracy looks like in Newton, we show up for each other and for our values.

The Newton Centre rally was one of several large gatherings in Massachusetts, with a major demonstration in Boston, joining events across the land from sea to shining sea.
