Elections Action Team
Highlights from our member meeting on November 2nd
On Sunday, November 2nd, on Zoom, we were treated to an exceptional presentation by our Elections Action Team on the twelve ways that the Republicans are trying to steal the 2026 elections. A lively discussion followed. For those who missed it, download the slide deck.
Please email the Elections Action Team at elections@newton-indivisible.org to join us in our election campaign/ballot initiative work or our free and fair elections work.
VoteRiders
The Elections Action Team works directly with the VoteRiders Voter ID project to ensure citizens are not deprived of their right to vote due to an inability to access state-mandated voter ID. VoteRiders provides training and resource materials. Training is available on alternating Wednesdays and Thursday evenings through December 10th. Join us in this important effort!

Halloween Fashion Show, Music Parade, and Giant Puppets
The Newton Indivisible Laughtivism Action Team orchestrated a hilarious fashion show on Halloween. Participants said it was “Funny while packing a political punch,” “A delight to engage in activism that was joyous and fun,” “Creative and collaborative,” and “You HAVE to do this again.”
The Action Team was thrilled to share their creation with 50+ warm audience members who were not deterred by the howling winds and they would like to thank everyone who catwalked, played music, puppet-ed, applauded, danced and crewed in the event last Friday.
Special thanks to Boston Area Brigade of Activist Musicians (BABAM), and to Sara Peattie at the Boston Puppet Free Library. Special thanks to our Storytelling Action Team who documented the event.

Call your senators this week

Once again, please call to thank our U.S. Senators for continuing to stand up to the Republicans in support of restoring the ACA insurance benefits that the Big Bad Bill stripped from Americans. Democrats may be tempted to cave on the theory that SNAP benefits, which the administration has chosen not to pay, would be restored were the government to reopen. Have we not learned that Republicans accept no obligation to take care of the poor, the sick, and the hungry?

- Call Senator Ed Markey: 617-565-8519

The fight hasn’t ended. Visit this page to see this week’s action: suggestions you can carry out right now! Bookmark the page and revisit it weekly for a new way to resist—one action, one story, one stand at a time.
General Strike
The General Strike is a decentralized network of people and organizations committed to striking once we reach 3.5% of the U.S. population, or 11 million people. They are collecting strike cards so they know when it will be time to strike. They don’t have a traditional leader or hierarchical structure. Join the movement!
Blackout The System
The primary organization supporting an economic blackout in November is Blackout The System, which has called for a nationwide boycott from November 25 to December 2, urging participants to refrain from working and spending money as a protest against corporate greed and the U.S. economic system. This movement aims to demonstrate collective power by halting labor and financial activity during the Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. Take action so the system will hear we the people.
Bearing Witness to ICE, Burlington
Standouts at Burlington ICE take place three days a week:
- Every Wednesday, 11 to 1:00 p.m., stand in solidarity with Indivisible Waltham and Bearing Witness; It’s an incredible and energizing experience: ~600 protesters, live music, speakers, a march, and more! We stand outside the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Office in Burlington, MA. Together, we show our love and support for immigrants, express our shame at ICE, and bear witness to the cruel and unconstitutional actions of our government. Click here for more information and to join us!
- Every Thursday, 11 am to 1pm, GAIN (Greater Assabet Indivisible Network) continues their Justice 4 All standouts at Burlington ICE, same location and instructions as Wednesdays, reach out to info@massgain.org or justice4all.thu@gmail.com for more information.
- Every Saturday, join the new protest group, “No Fear Street Theater” for protests from 11 am to 1 pm. Stand up for immigrants two blocks from the Burlington ICE office. All are welcome and encouraged to support our immigrant community. Check the MAPA event calendar to confirm details.
LUCE Hotline
The LUCE hotline (617-370-5023) is a statewide ICE watch hotline that operates from 5 am to 9 pm every day and is staffed in multiple languages. If you suspect ICE activity in your neighborhood and are unsure it is ICE, call the hotline to report it. Trained volunteers will then attempt to verify ICE’s presence and notify the community. LUCE is currently seeking hotline operators and verifiers; you’ll find sign-up links on their website, learn more by visiting lucemass.org.
Don’t Stream Fascism: Cancel Spotify
Indivisible is supporting the Don’t Stream Fascism: Cancel Spotify initiative. Spotify is running ads recruiting ICE agents, and the ads target vulnerable populations, promise signing bonuses, and normalize fear and intimidation in our neighborhoods. Spotify claims these ads comply with their policy, but the truth is streaming hate is not neutral. It’s a choice. Refuse to fund it. Refuse to ignore it.
Brought to you by the Newton Indivisible Executive Committee: Kia, Rachael, Larry, Pat, Erica, Karen, and David.
