Action event of the week:
Bridge Brigade Action Team

Thursday is Pastry Day! Join us for free local pastries!

The Newton Bridge Brigade will be out this Thursday, December 4th, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Yes, you read that right: two hours – but come for as long as you can. Half an hour would be terrific. As we dine on our local pastries, wave to our fellow Americans, and dance to Martha and the Vandellas, our message will be:

“Buy Local Boycott Billionaires”

Find us on the Kendrick St. Bridge over Rt 128/95. Drive West on Nahanton St./Kendrick St., pass the JCC, pass Cutler Park, go up over the bridge, and take your first right to park on Hunting Road. You can’t miss us, pastries are waiting!

Please click here to RSVP to let us know you are coming so we know how many pastries to bring.

For more information, please email rallies@newton-indivisible.org. Other Bridge Brigade activity in the Boston area can be found here.

Our next all-member meeting

Our next meeting will take place on Sunday, December 7th, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Zoom.

During the first half of our meeting, we will celebrate our successes over the past year and acknowledge that resistance is, in fact, having an impact. In the second half of the meeting, we will discuss what actions we are willing to take as we go forward.

Please RSVP to receive the Zoom link. We meet every other week, alternating between in-person and Zoom meetings.

Where should we shop locally?

Last weekend, we joined the We Ain’t Buying It initiative: boycott Target, Home Depot, and Amazon and commit to shopping locally. But where should we shop locally?

Newton Indivisible is collecting ideas for good places to spend money this upcoming shopping season—still staying away from Target, Home Depot, and Amazon.

Please fill out this form to recommend a store or service that’s in tune with one or more of our goals: resisting ICE as a policy, not caving to pressure to eliminate DEI or send money to the Trump Administration, being sensitive to the environment, or in some other way being a good citizen.

We’ll compile your suggestions into a list of good places to shop, and make it available to you for the upcoming shopping season!

Rallies Action Team

Every Saturday, Standout in Newton Centre!

Join us for our 38th standout in Newton Centre on Saturday, December 6th, at the intersection of Beacon and Center Streets from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m.

  • We continue to resist the Trump Administration!
  • HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
  • SHOP, EAT, RESIST LOCALLY!

Saturday RESIST Standouts will continue in Newton Centre from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. throughout the winter unless the City of Newton declares a snow emergency. However, some of our stalwart participants may not be able to stand out in the cold.

If you are young and healthy, please consider joining us on any Saturday you are available during the winter months.

Bring your own signs; visit The Big List of Protest Signs for ideas.

Laughtivism Action Team

Would you like to fight this regime using humor? You’ve come to the right place! Our Laughtivism Action Team uses humor and pranks to make statements while also lifting the spirits of all involved!

We are looking for someone to act as Lady Liberty for our

Fun and Facetious Fashion Show
at the Natick Mall on Saturday, Dec 13th at 3:00 p.m.

No acting experience necessary, just a willingness to have fun, make a statement, and be in community!

As another option, please join us as a supportive audience member at the Natick Mall during the event.

For info, please get in touch with us at laughtivism@newton-indivisible.org.

Youth Recruitment Action Team

Please, be in touch with us. We are gearing up to engage youth in Newton Indivisible. Our first step is to contact students at North and South high schools, and area colleges, including Boston College, Lasell, and UMass/Mount Ida Campus, who are involved in Climate Action, Political Action, or Government/Civics.

If you know students or teachers who could put us in touch with these student groups or student leaders in these areas, we’d love to talk with you. Please email our team at youth@newton-indivisible.org.

Elections Action Team

Here are our recommended actions for this week. For info, please contact us at elections@newton-indivisible.org.

Learning Opportunities

Noncooperation Training

In case you missed our general meeting on noncooperation, or you’d like to hear about it again from a well-informed and charismatic speaker, the Freedom Trainers are planning a Noncooperation 101 training on December 4th at 7:00 p.m. EST. Anyone can register for the training.

They’ll cover the authoritarian threat, pillars of support, stories of noncooperation in these times, and how noncooperation has been used to defeat authoritarians and fascists.
