Propaganda is of no use to the politician unless he has something to say which the public, consciously or unconsciously, wants to hear. Edward L. Bernays, 1928

City Council Meeting on Newton’s Response to ICE
Pack the Newton City Hall Chamber this Wednesday, March 18th, at 7:00 p.m. So far, our Mayor has refused to alert ICE that it is not allowed to use city property, and he has not clearly stated how he proposes safeguarding protestors’ safety. Come and join your neighbors at this crucial moment to demonstrate the importance of this issue.
Public testimony is not scheduled for this meeting, but a huge showing will speak loudly. We can demand the opportunity to speak by sending emails to the City Councilors. Take a look at the Public Safety & Transportation Committee Agenda, March 18, 2026 for the details. Please attend in person to show that we want answers (though Zoom is a backup option).
Before the meeting, please email City Councilors as a group at CityCouncil@newtonma.gov to share your opinion on how Newton should address ICE and to let them all know you demand an opportunity to speak on this issue.
Join Anita Hill and Judge Mark Wolf for a fireside chat

Stop Massachusetts from adopting tax cuts for billionaires
Unless we act now, the federal tax cuts will be baked into our state’s tax code. States use the federal tax code as a starting point to calculate how much people and corporations owe in taxes. The Big Bill for Billionaires (BBB) changes the federal tax code to cut taxes for the rich and large corporations. Massachusetts already faces a budget crisis due to the BBB. We can’t afford even more cuts to health care, food assistance, education, and other essential public services.
Demand that your representatives have Massachusetts opt out of federal tax cuts at the state level. Other states across the country (such as California, Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island) have already done so. Learn more here or register here to have Phineas Baxandall, the Policy Director at the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center, explain it to you on Wednesday, March 18th, at 7:00 p.m.
