Action of the Week: Stand Out for Voting Rights
Join us on Saturday, July 18th, from noon to 1:30 p.m., in Newton Centre (corner of Centre and Beacon Streets), for a special Good Trouble Lives On standout to honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis (learn about him), protect voting rights, and protest voter suppression laws. Make your voice heard! Bring signs and spread the word. Learn about opportunities for action. We are joining the Good Trouble Lives On Weekend of Action sponsored by Indivisible, the Transformative Justice Coalition, Move On, and other groups.
Wokestock Festival
Please come to the Wokestock Festival on July 18th, from noon to 9:00 p.m., on the Riverstage at beautiful Herter Park, Soldier’s Field Road in Allston on the Charles River. Enjoy art, activism, and music, inspired by Woodstock, including contributions from our own Laughtivism Action Team. Booths, puppets, art, vendors, and a variety of music all day. Candidate Forum for Massachusetts’s 10th Middlesex District

Commonwealth Action Team: Governor Healey Overrides Voters
Two years ago, Massachusetts voters passed a ballot initiative that eliminated the requirement that high school students pass the statewide standardized MCAS test before graduation. This year, a state commission produced a report that called for the creation of several standard statewide “end-of-course” tests in a few subject areas. Thus, by a backdoor, Healey and her appointees are reinstating statewide standardized testing as a graduation requirement, reversing the voters’ mandate.
Newton Resists ICE
On Wednesday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m., at Newton City Hall, come hear our City Councilors respond to our recent public demands about Newton’s response to ICE. This is the follow-up to the April 15th public hearing when many of us spoke up for more protection for our residents, workers, and visitors against ICE. Please wear something yellow so we are visible to the Council!
