Action of the week: Buy Local!
Last week, we suggested continuing to avoid Home Depot, Target, and Amazon during the holiday shopping season, extending the We Ain’t Buying It initiative. We also asked for recommendations for alternative places to shop that are aligned with our group’s goal of resisting authoritarianism. Here are the results, listed as received:
- Costco: lots of stuff, especially in bulk
- Folklorica: jewelry and decorative items at a wide variety of price points. Great for small gifts
- MOM’s Organic Market (Natick): groceries, great service, environmentally conscious
- Volante Farms: good local produce and nice family business, though mostly not organic
- Newtonville Books: speaking up for our freedom to read. Helpful, friendly, and well-stocked
- Watertown Watch and Clock (Waltham): treats customers well
In addition, our members suggest that the following businesses are immigrant-friendly and ICE-resistant:
- Dogish, Quality goods and grooming, Newrtonville
- Caffè Nero, Newtonville
- The Union Pharmacy, Newtonville
- Aji Restaurant, Newtonville
- Bus Stop: Corner store, Newton Corner
We welcome other suggestions from members for businesses to patronize.

Meet at the Irish Famine Memorial Plaza on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 7:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 24 School Street, Boston, for the Boston ICE Tea Party.
We call upon all patriots to join us on the 252nd anniversary of the Boston Tea Party to retrace the footsteps of this historic protest and declare once more that America has No Kings!
We will gather across the Old South Meeting House and then march to Waterfront Plaza, by the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. And we will dump ice into Boston Harbor, to declare loud and clear: No Kings! No Tariffs! No ICE! Please do not bring your own ice. Clean ice will be provided for dumping. More information is available.
Today, a President who behaves like a king occupies the White House. He has sent ICE to harass our city and kidnap our friends, families, and neighbors. He has levied unjust tariffs, making our tea, coffee, and lives more expensive. Let us rise together once more to take down tyranny!
