Quotes of the Week
“May is the month of expectation, the month of wishes, the month of hope.” — Emily Brontë
“The billionaires are organized. We have to be, too.” — MayDayStrong.org
“No Work. No School. No Shopping. May Day is ours.” — MayDayStrong.org
Action of the week: Participate in May Day Boycotts

Sign the May Day pledge to boycott work, school, and shopping on Friday, May 1st! May Day Strong’s website also has a searchable map to help you find May Day solidarity events taking place.
Participation is simple: No School. No Work. No Shopping. This is a required step in our development as a movement. It will demonstrate to those still on the sidelines that we have staying power and the capacity to escalate. It will show our political adversaries that we have the ability to apply pressure on a national scale at a specific time in a coordinated way to effect. It is a warning to capitulators that we have leverage in the consumerist system that they have built and that we are smart enough to exploit that vulnerability.
Rallies Action Team
Instead of a dedicated event on Friday, May 1st, Newton Indivisible will hold our 59th RESIST standout in Newton Centre Green at the intersection of Beacon and Center Streets on Saturday from noon to 1:00 p.m. We request that photographers introduce themselves before taking any pictures. Bring your own signs. Check out The Big List of Protest Signs for ideas. Contact us at rallies@newton-indivisible.org for more information. Registration is optional.
Monthly Member Meeting: Lessons from Minneapolis — Organizing micro-neighborhood groups

Join us on Wednesday, May 6th, 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. via Zoom, to learn from two longtime Minneapolis residents who have been part of Minneapolis’ now-famous micro-neighborhood groups. We’ll explore the nuts and bolts of setting up and managing such groups and identify transferable lessons we can apply to establish or strengthen groups in our communities. The session will be structured around questions submitted in advance by participants.
Please register for the event now and submit your questions. This event is Newton Indivisible’s member meeting for this month and brought to you in collaboration with Indivisible Waltham, Indivisible Weston, and Indivisible LAB.
Commonwealth Advocacy Team
Join the coalition of indivisible groups within Massachusetts (IMC) on Tuesday, April 28, at 7 PM for a discussion of the MA ballot questions with guest speakers Jonathan Cohn from Progressive Mass and John Lippitt from IMC’s Legislative Reform Action Team. RSVP and submit your question to be part of the lively, interesting and informative dialogue! This call will be recorded.
Newton Bridge Brigade Action Team
Please note that the Newton Bridge Brigade at the Kendrick Street bridge is canceled on Thursday, April 30th.
Sign up to help us reach our nationwide goal of messaging from 1,000 overpasses on D-Day Democracy Day (June 6th). We especially invite veterans and artists to contribute and participate. This will be the biggest Visibility Brigade nationwide action yet. We will engage millions while honoring those who fought fascism long ago on the beaches of Normandy. We are out at several locations weekly.
Visit the Bridge Brigade Action Team page for groups, dates, locations, and how to join one of the local Signal chats to stay up to date on these actions.
Laughtivism Action Team
The next Laughtivism Action Team meeting will be on Zoom, Wednesday, April 29th, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. We will plan our upcoming event at Newton Open Studios on May 30th. Newcomers welcome! To receive the Zoom link, contact laughtivism@newton-indivisible.org.
