IInspired by many groups around the world who have used humor to bring down dictators, we aim to find uplifting, creative and non-violent ways to fight the current administration.
Humor and satire can lift our spirits, tap into our creative sides and offer a new and unusual way to view challenging situations and can make powerful statements.
Examples of some of the pieces we have created so far:
- Urgent Care Clinic for Democracy — a booth designed after Lucy of Charlie Brown. Dr. Bonnie Rae helps your symptoms of anger, hopelessness, etc. with tongue-in-cheek “treatments” that inspire folks to get active in Newton Indivisible.
- Let’s Get This Stain Out for Good — A cardboard washing machine with three dancers inside which magically removes the DJT stain on a t-shirt with the New Powerful Indivisible Powder.
- Fascism Fashion Show — Examples of models outfits; the “Shredded Constitution Dress,” the “New Measles Look,” ending with Lady Liberty to give us hope.
- Humorous Dioramas depicting the “Ratocracy” — Shoe box-size dioramas of Rats inflicting damage to our Democracy; examples include tearing down the East Wing of the White House and undercutting Science and the CDC.
